Azerbaijan plans to open the Aghdam–Khankandi railway line and a new railway and bus terminal in Khankandi by 2027, according to a senior official.
Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Deputy Chairman Arif Aghayev said the project is part of ongoing efforts to expand the country’s transport network. He also noted that passenger traffic increased significantly in 2025, with the company transporting more than 10 million passengers, marking a record high, Caliber.Az reports.

The project includes the construction of railway stations in Askeran and Khojaly, along with a combined railway and bus terminal in Khankandi. The facility will be located along the Gargarchay River and will cover an area of 6.4 hectares. It will include two train platforms and 12 bus stops.
The Aghdam–Khankandi railway will be 28 kilometres long, or 30.8 kilometres including sidings, and is intended to improve transport connections and passenger movement in the region.
