Baku, Belgrade explore tourism cooperation opportunities

28 August 2024 18:45

During a visit to Belgrade, Fuad Nagiyev, Chairman of the State Agency for Tourism (SAT) of Azerbaijan, engaged in discussions with Husein Memic, Serbia's Minister of Tourism and Youth, focusing on enhancing tourism cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting covered several key areas, including the prospects for bilateral cooperation in tourism, the expansion of collaborative efforts within international organizations, and the mutual exchange of valuable information on tourism education, Caliber.Az reports citing the agency.

Nagiyev informed Memic about a significant development: for the first time, tourism will be featured in the thematic program of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which Azerbaijan will host in November.

In addition, Nagiyev invited Memic to participate in the "First High-Level Ministerial Meeting on Improving Climate Action in Tourism," which will be held as part of "Tourism Day" during COP29. This event aims to address the intersection of tourism and climate action and foster international dialogue on sustainable tourism practices.

Following their discussions, the two officials signed a "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Tourism Sector between the Tourism Bureau of Azerbaijan and the National Tourism Organisation of Serbia."

Nagiyev also met with Nikola Selakovic, Serbia's Minister of Culture and co-chairman of the Azerbaijan-Serbia Intergovernmental Commission. They emphasized the strong connection between culture and tourism, noting that expanding cooperation in these areas would positively impact the mutual flow of tourists and strengthen cultural ties between the two nations.
