Baku court delivers verdict in case involving Armenian citizens Photo

The Baku Military Court has delivered the verdicts for seven more Armenian citizens accused of crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, as well as terrorism, financing of terrorism, violent seizure of power, and other offences.

The court sentenced Melikset Pashayan to 19 years, Garik Martirosyan to 18 years, David Allahverdyan to 16 years, Levon Balayan to 16 years, Vasiliy Beglaryan to 15 years, Gurgen Stepanyan to 15 years, and Erik Ghazaryan to 15 years of imprisonment, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azertag.

Armenian citizen Madat Babayan, who admitted his involvement in the Khojaly genocide, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison.

Although Madat Babayan was charged with crimes punishable by life imprisonment, and these charges were proven during the trial, the sentence was handed down in accordance with the requirements of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Since the defendant was 65 years old at the time of sentencing, he cannot be sentenced to life imprisonment, Caliber.Az reports via local media

It should be recalled that prosecutors supporting the state prosecution proposed sentencing Babayan to 20 years in prison.

The Baku Military Court has sentenced Armenian citizen Bako Sahakyan to 20 years in prison, according to a court decision.

Although Sahakyan was also charged with crimes punishable by life imprisonment and the charges were proven during the trial, the sentence was imposed in line with the requirements of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is noted that prosecutors representing the state prosecution had also requested a 20-year prison sentence for Bako Sahakyan.

The Baku Military Court continues issuing verdicts in cases against Armenian citizens accused of crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, terrorism, financing of terrorism, and the violent seizure of power.

In the latest ruling, the court sentenced Arkadi Gukasyan fo 20 years in prison, Caliber.Az reports via Azertag

Although he was charged with offenses that carry a possible life sentence and the court found the charges proven during the trial, the sentence was issued in line with the provisions of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code.

Under Azerbaijani law, individuals who have reached the age of 65 cannot be sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Baku Military Court has handed down a life sentence to Armenian citizen Arayik Harutyunyan, as part of an ongoing trial of Armenian nationals accused of serious crimes. 

Earlier, prosecutors in the case had recommended life imprisonment, and the court ultimately upheld that request, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

During the open hearing on February 5 in the criminal cases against citizens of the Republic of Armenia— Arayik Harutyunyan, Arkadi Gukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Davit Ishkhanyan, David Babayan, Levon Mnatsakanyan, and others – accused of committing crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, including the preparation and conduct of an aggressive war, genocide, violations of the laws and rules of war, as well as terrorism, financing of terrorism, violent seizure and retention of power, and numerous other crimes as a result of Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan, the court is delivering the final verdict regarding the accused individuals.

The court session at the Baku Military Court, chaired by Judge Zeynal Aghayev with a panel consisting of Jamal Ramazanov and Anar Rzayev (reserve judge Gunel Samadova), provided each accused with an interpreter in their native language and lawyers for their defenсe.

The session is attended by the accused, their defenders, some of the victims, their legal successors and representatives, prosecutors defending the state accusation, as well as Rufat Mammadov, Head of the Cabinet of Ministers Executive Office.
