Baku court hears Armenian citizens’ trial as defendants deliver final statements
Proceedings at the Baku Military Court continued in the criminal case against Armenian nationals, with defendants delivering their closing statements.
Thus, defendant Davit Ishkhanyan addressed the court, using his final remarks to present counterarguments to the prosecution’s claims, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
The trial concerns a range of serious charges brought against Armenian citizens, including crimes against peace and humanity and war crimes. Prosecutors have also accused the defendants of preparing and waging an aggressive war, genocide, violations of the laws and customs of war, terrorism and the financing of terrorism, as well as the violent seizure and retention of power, among other offences.
The hearings are taking place amid close public and political scrutiny. The court is expected to continue hearing final statements from the remaining defendants before moving to the next stage of the proceedings.
