Baku discusses parameters of Azerbaijan's withdrawal from Council of Europe
As reported, following the biased policy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the Azerbaijani delegation suspended cooperation with PACE for an indefinite period.
A working meeting was recently held with participation of experts from the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, Milli Majlis and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trend reports.
During the meeting, political and legal parameters of Azerbaijan's withdrawal from the Council of Europe and issues related to the refusal to recognize the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice in response to PACE's biased attitude towards Azerbaijan and groundless accusations against the country were discussed.
On January 24, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) did not ratify the credentials of the Azerbaijani delegation in the organization.
Some 76 MPs voted in favour of the decision, 10 against, while four abstained.
However, the Azerbaijani delegation left the organization even before the vote, stressing that "in the face of the current unbearable atmosphere of racism, Azerbaijanophobia, and Islamophobia in the PACE, the delegation of Azerbaijan decides to cease its engagement with and presence at the PACE until further notice".
