Baku hosts meeting of Joint Azerbaijani-Iranian Commission on Araz River PHOTO

Baku hosted the 52nd meeting of the Joint Azerbaijani-Iranian Commission on the Use of Water and Energy Resources of the Araz River on June 16.

Representatives of the joint-stock company, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan and relevant organizations of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic took part in the meeting, chaired by the co-chairman of the Joint Azerbaijani-Iranian Commission from the Azerbaijani side, Deputy Chairman of the Melioration and Water Management of Azerbaijan OJSC Zakir Guliyev, Caliber.Az reports with reference to Azerbaijan Melioration and Water Management OJSC.

A number of issues were discussed at the meeting. Thus, the operating mode of the Araz reservoir and the distribution of water between the two countries were determined, the relevant distribution tables were developed and a protocol was signed on the joint use of water and energy resources of the Araz River.

Iran and Azerbaijan have great cooperation on the joint use of border rivers. The cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan on the use of border rivers has been going on for more than 50 years with the construction of the Araz and Mil-Mughan water reservoirs on the Araz River.

The two countries have joint plans to make maximum use of the potential of the Araz River. According to the memorandum approved between the two countries, Khudafarin and Giz Galasi hydro junctions were built.
