Baku Initiative Group leads rally against colonialism in Paris's centre PHOTO
A protest rally dedicated to "Decolonisation Day" took place in the heart of Paris, at the Trocadéro Square in front of the Eiffel Tower, on December 14.
The event was organized by the Baku Initiative Group with the participation of members of independence movements from French colonies, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The rally was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples by the United Nations General Assembly on December 14, 1960. Since then, 14 December has been celebrated worldwide as Decolonisation Day.
Various slogans were heard during the protest, such as: "No to colonialism, freedom!", "Fighting for freedom!", "Together for a free future," "Decolonization starts now," "Rewrite history with our words and our struggle!" and "Give us back our lands and our history!"
Representatives of independence movements from Comoros, Guadeloupe, French Polynesia, Réunion, New Caledonia, Saint Martin, Corsica, and Martinique took part in the event.
The participants called for the implementation of Resolution 1514, adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 14, 1960, and urged the international community and organizations to respond appropriately to the current situation in the colonies.
The Baku Initiative Group, an international non-governmental organization, is dedicated to fostering international partnerships in decolonisation and human rights. The group firmly and continuously supports the struggles for freedom and independence of those living under colonial and neocolonial rule, committing to solidarity and practical assistance.
Simultaneously, the organization contributes to women empowerment, human rights, environmental, and cultural issues.
