Baku: Iranian police took no steps to thwart Azerbaijan embassy terror attack UPDATE / VIDEO
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Spokesman Aykhan Hajizade has said that the Iranian police took no steps to foil a terrorist attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran on January 27.
He made the remarks at a briefing for journalists on February 6, Azertag reports.
"During the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran, the Iranian police did not take any steps to neutralise the terrorist. Despite the terrorist's repeated attempts to enter our embassy, the Iranian police did not prevent this terrorist act," he said.
He noted that when the terrorist, armed with a submachine gun, a pistol and a Molotov cocktail, realised that his attempt had failed, he opened fire on the windows of apartments on the floor where the families of embassy employees live.
"Then he tried to burn the car of our embassy. After that, an unknown person got out of the car in which the terrorist arrived, taking some things with him. All these factors prove once again that this was a deliberate terrorist act," Hajizade said.
