Baku–Muscat talks focus on renewables, LNG and green hydrogen

Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met in Baku with Oman’s Minister of Economy Said bin Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Saqri to discuss prospects for expanding bilateral energy cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, Shahbazov briefed his Omani counterpart on Azerbaijan’s ongoing projects in the production and export of renewable energy.

Particular attention was given to the electricity, fibre-optic, and hydrogen components of the Caspian–Black Sea–Europe Green Energy Corridor.

The two sides also exchanged views on the establishment of data centres and their power supply, as well as on measures to support and attract investment in this area.

The Omani delegation, in turn, outlined the country’s investments in the oil and gas sector, stressing that hydrocarbons will continue to play an important role for Oman and for the global energy market over the long term.

It was noted that Oman is investing in liquefied natural gas production and aims to become one of the region’s leading LNG exporters. The country already operates four large industrial solar parks and plans to meet 40% of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2040. In addition, Oman intends to produce 1 million tons of green hydrogen by 2030.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to define specific areas of cooperation within the framework of bilateral documents already signed. These include collaboration in the oil and gas sector, the manufacture of solar panels and wind turbines, and an assessment of broader opportunities for partnership across the entire energy sector.
