Baku Stock Exchange reports one-third drop in market turnover
The total value of transactions across all financial instruments on the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE) reached 23.831 billion manats ($14.02 billion) in the first half of 2026, down 34.9% from the same period a year earlier.
Despite the sharp decline in trading turnover, market activity increased significantly, with the number of transactions rising 2.3 times year-on-year to 35,442, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Repo transactions continued to dominate trading on the exchange, accounting for 90.6% of total turnover. The value of repo deals stood at 21.596 billion manats ($12.70 billion), although this was 30.8% lower than in the corresponding period of 2025.
Trading in government securities also weakened considerably during the reporting period, with transaction volume falling 2.7-fold to 1.518 billion manats ($892.9 million).
Meanwhile, turnover in the corporate securities market declined 46.1% year-on-year to 717.206 million manats, reflecting a broad slowdown in trading activity across key market segments.
