Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov led a delegation to Laos on December 8–9, where officials from Baku and Vientiane held talks on enhancing their collaboration in international organisations.

The visit included the first political consultations between the foreign ministries of both countries, co-chaired by Mammadov and his Laotian counterpart Maythong Thammavongsa, Caliber.Az reports via the Foreign Ministry.

The discussions encompassed the current state of bilateral relations, potential avenues for expansion, collaboration across political, economic, and humanitarian domains, and coordination within international organizations.

Mammadov briefed the Laotian side on the regional situation, demining efforts in territories liberated from occupation, and ongoing reconstruction work.

During the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation head met with the Vice President of the National Assembly of Laos, Sounthone Xayachack, and the country’s Foreign Minister, Thongsavanh Phomvihane.

He also attended an official reception marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Laos.
