Belarus applauds Azerbaijan’s hospitality, leadership at WUF13

18 May 2026 17:41

Belarus has expressed gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for the high level of organization of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) and for Azerbaijan’s traditional hospitality, as Minsk reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation and sustainable urban development.

The remarks were made by Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko during the Leaders’ Summit held on the sidelines of WUF13 in Baku, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

“On behalf of the Belarusian delegation, I would like to express gratitude to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the organizers of WUF13 for the high level of preparation of the forum and the traditional hospitality,” Sergeyenko said.

He noted that Belarus considers reducing carbon emissions, minimizing negative environmental impacts, and expanding the use of renewable energy sources among its key priorities.

“The current session coincides with the tenth anniversary of the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. This period has become a time for searching for optimal solutions. Today, it is important to consolidate the results achieved and define new benchmarks. Belarus is open to sincere dialogue and equal partnership and is ready to work together with you to seek solutions to the challenges of modern urban development. Only by joining forces and listening to one another can we build cities designed for prosperous living,” he stated.

Addressing bilateral cooperation with Azerbaijan, Sergeyenko highlighted a joint initiative to establish an agro-town in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam district, describing it as a practical example of the growing partnership between the two countries.

“We reaffirm our strong commitment to our international obligations and pursue a peace-oriented foreign policy based on mutually beneficial cooperation with partners, including in the fields of infrastructure construction and urban development,” he said.

According to Sergeyenko, the Belarusian-Azerbaijani agro-town project reflects the shared vision of the leaderships of both countries.

“This idea belongs to the leaders of our countries, and I am confident that the implementation of this project will contribute to improving the living standards of many Azerbaijanis,” Sergeyenko emphasized.
