Belgium commends Azerbaijan’s role in Europe’s energy security—diplomat
Belgium has expressed strong appreciation for Azerbaijan’s contribution to Europe’s energy security, emphasizing the importance of deepening ties between Baku and Brussels.
This was stated by Belgian Ambassador to Baku Julien de Fraipont during a reception held in honor of King’s Day, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“We fully support the further deepening of relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan. These strengthening ties reflect a common aspiration to build interconnected, open, predictable, and stable relations based on cooperation. In today’s world, where some forces seek to undermine these principles, I consider it especially important to strengthen them,” de Fraipont said.
Highlighting the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, the ambassador cited the first visit of the Belgian Prime Minister to Baku as “an important milestone in the history of our relations.” He added that collaboration between the two countries has continued to expand across various sectors.
“In particular, one can note the fruitful cooperation between our authorities during the transit of Belgian citizens and the support provided by Azerbaijan during the evacuation of our diplomatic personnel from Iran during military operations. I would like to once again express gratitude to the Azerbaijani authorities for assistance in this situation,” de Fraipont emphasized.
The ambassador further underscored that the relationship between Belgium and Azerbaijan is reinforced by ongoing political dialogue and active people-to-people contacts, which he said “enrich the societies of both countries.”
De Fraipont also highlighted the growing presence of Belgian companies in Azerbaijan, noting their successful engagement in energy, logistics, construction, and port infrastructure projects.
