Bicycle rally held in New Delhi dedicated to COP29 and Green World Solidarity Year
On October 27, the Azerbaijani Embassy in India, in collaboration with the Confederation of Cyclists of India, hosted a bicycle rally in New Delhi.
This event was dedicated to the 2024 Year of Solidarity for a Green World and the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Caliber.Az reports, citing the embassy.
According to the embassy, the rally commenced in the morning at the embassy building and concluded at the historic India Gate monument, located in the heart of New Delhi.
Notably, in the run-up to the 29th edition of the Conference of Parties (CoP) to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November, India is at an advanced stage in deciding on the carbon dioxide emissions intensity targets for select industries, according to the country’s Environment Ministry.
As COP29 approaches, India’s focus is likely to be on speeding up the use of clean energy technologies like green hydrogen, solar, wind, and bioenergy, including biogas. Compressed Biogas (CBG), with its potential to reduce emissions and manage waste sustainably, will definitely play a vital role in this transition, as per Girdhar.
The COP29 session, scheduled for November 11 to 22, 2024, in Baku, is expected to draw between 70,000 and 80,000 international participants, making it a significant global event. The decision to hold COP29 in Azerbaijan was finalized during the COP28 plenary session in Dubai on December 11, 2023.
The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the supreme decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), an organization established during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 to address the global climate crisis. COP29 provides a platform for Azerbaijan and other nations to showcase their contributions to climate action and to foster greater international cooperation in tackling environmental issues.
