Biden's disgraceful legacy to become shameful stigma for US for years to come Azerbaijani newspaper responds to accusations

19 October 2024 12:43

An article published by the Washington Post headlined “Another major climate conference helps a despotic regime” made false and defamatory accusations against Azerbaijan.

The current article from the Azerbaijan newspaper responds to accusations by portraying the USA in a despotic and cruel light. It highlights the underlying reasons behind the slanderous campaign launched by the US against Azerbaijan.

Caliber.Az presents the article.

"First of all, after Azerbaijan's victory in the Patriotic War and the restoration of its territorial integrity, the United States began to openly pursue a pro-Armenian policy, which until 2020 was somewhat covert. This shift has been accompanied by more aggressive actions. The primary instrument in this anti-Azerbaijani campaign is the American media, particularly the Washington Post, which serves the interests of the White House. This publication, acting as a mouthpiece for the Democratic Party, an instrument of pressure in its hand, has become a tool for spreading lies, slander, and insults, and it has earned a tarnished reputation. Thousands of people, including former US President Donald Trump, senators, congressmen, and governors, consider the Washington Post to be a source of fake news.

Such articles published by the Washington Post, which specializes in false and offensive material as well as disinformation, are typically prepared by the US State Department. The recent appeal to Secretary of State Blinken from 60 congressmen was also orchestrated at the State Department and essentially sent by him to himself. These articles and appeals are integral to the information war that the US has waged against Azerbaijan in the lead-up to COP29.

Let us briefly comment on the aforementioned article. Both the Azerbaijani state and the international community are in the crosshairs of the Washington Post.

What is Azerbaijan being accused of?

'Of seizing the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave and expelling the ethnic Armenian population from their homes…'

'In destroying the legal, political, and civil institutions of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh...'

'In condemning the call by 60 US congressmen for the immediate and unconditional release of ethnic Armenians, hostages, and prisoners of war as ‘disgusting...'

'In holding 23 famous Armenian political figures under arrest in Azerbaijan...'

'In refusing to release R. Vardanyan from detention despite all demands...'

In a nutshell, the key question is why Azerbaijan has restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty. This development irritates and concerns the White House and the State Department to such an extent that they do not hesitate to express outright hostility.

Another source of orders for such articles against Azerbaijan is the Armenian lobby. For example, there are many Armenian journalists working at the Washington Post, as well as in various institutions around the world. One notable figure is David Ignatius, who is remembered for igniting the confrontation between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Israeli President Shimon Peres.

The family of Ruben Vardanyan, who is currently under arrest in Azerbaijan, plays a significant role in the network of complementary interests driving the slander campaign against Azerbaijan. Samantha Power, a favoured figure in the Biden administration and the Democratic Party, Administrator of USAID, is also a supporter of the separatist and criminal Ruben Vardanyan. Power, who was dismissed from her position during Obama's first term, was appointed by her patron Ruben Vardanyan to the jury of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative, which she co-founded. She has consistently been influenced by the Armenian lobby.

This activist, a long-time resident of Yerevan, consistently promoted the so-called "Armenian genocide" at international events. USAID, which proclaims its mission "Humanitarian assistance to the world from the American people," has allocated about $3.3 billion to Armenia over the past few years and currently supports 22 ongoing projects.

Ruben Vardanyan's business partner and co-founder of the Aurora Initiative, Armenian billionaire Noubar Afeyan, is also among those mobilizing the Armenian diaspora against Azerbaijan. By "coincidence," this individual, through the company he leads, Moderna, has been collaborating with the Washington Post for many years. Noubar Afeyan himself admits that during meetings with UN representatives, he requested that they postpone the COP29. He also openly acknowledges that he is spending money to prevent a significant number of journalists and human rights activists from participating in COP29.

Of course, one could choose to ignore the absurd claims made by the Washington Post. However, it is interesting to note that today, as the entire world condemns US policy—when the electoral process in the country has become a source of ridicule globally and President Biden's actions have turned into a parable—they continue to throw stones from their "glass house."

If you were to ask Biden, he probably wouldn't even remember the existence of a country called Azerbaijan. He not only fails to determine state policy but also struggles to manage his own actions. He is being guided by others, who tell him where to go and what to say. It would be a great injustice to compare him to Leonid Brezhnev; the latter, in any case, was more active, healthier, and more reasonable than his American counterpart.

Biden, who spent two years of his four-year presidential term vacationing by the ocean, has used the remaining two years to exacerbate global tensions. It is impossible to predict how history will remember his erratic behaviour and his gestures that seem to reach out to thin air, but his harsh policies that push nations and peoples toward ruin will never be forgotten. The disgraceful legacy associated with Biden’s name will haunt America for years to come, becoming a shameful stigma for the nation.

Biden, whose hands are stained with the bloodshed in Iraq, Libya, Syria, and other conflict zones, is now primarily responsible for the situation in Gaza and Lebanon. He and his administration have fueled civil strife in various countries, leading to the deaths of thousands, destroying nations, and then abandoning them to their fates, as seen in Afghanistan. It is Biden and his administration that are pushing the Ukrainian people and the state toward destruction, with more than half the population having become migrants or casualties. In a few months, they may well flee Ukraine too, leaving it, like Afghanistan, to its fate.

So how did it come to pass that Biden was elected President? The last time we witnessed this “achievement” of American “democracy,” which is based on the “practice of fair elections,” was four years ago. Donald Trump, who won by popular vote at the polls, was "helped" to lose through mailed ballots of questionable origin. The candidate who achieved the highest economic growth in the United States in the last three decades and won the support of a significant portion of the electorate was forced to lose to a political puppet whom his own citizens label a “stupid old man.”

In the US, with its most scandalous electoral rules and dubious electoral practices, the crucial aspect is not who votes, but whose name emerges from the ballot box. This is what American "democracy" entails.

Today, the US system of governance appears to target the "undesirable candidate" rather than uphold political integrity. There is a climate of information terror, attacks on the entire legal system, and incessant court proceedings that prove ineffective, culminating in physical threats. Donald Trump asserts that behind all three assassination attempts against him are sinister plans orchestrated by the White House, backing his claims with evidence.

The security agencies and investigative bodies in the US, which monitor the world from space down to the Mariana Trench, still cannot "identify" the masterminds behind three terrorist acts committed within two months, reinforcing the validity of Trump's suspicions. Additionally, the call for the resignation of US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle following her cryptic appearance at a House Committee on Oversight and Accountability hearing after the first assassination attempt on Trump—and her resignation the very next day—suggests that there are very serious issues at play.

No matter how rigged the US elections were, the system, recognizing the impossibility of winning with Biden, resorted to a “palace coup,” bringing Kamala Harris into the spotlight. The new Democratic presidential candidate did not even participate in the primary intra-party elections, and if she had, she likely would not have made it into the top five.

One of the key topics of criticism directed at Azerbaijan is related to COP29. Baku is set to host the prominent summit with the agreement of 198 countries that are members of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, including the US itself. A few days ago, during a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, John Podesta, Senior Advisor to US President for International Climate Policy, praised Azerbaijan's preparations for COP29, noting that despite the short timeframe, the Azerbaijani side demonstrates high professionalism.

The Washington Post, which leads a vile smear campaign against any country, company, or individual, claims that Azerbaijan cannot host COP29 because it is an oil-producing nation that harms the climate and the environment. This absurd assertion comes from the primary mouthpiece of a state that is continuously expanding its oil and gas production, significantly polluting the climate while allocating the least funds to address the problem.

Consider the facts. Last year, the US produced between 13.1 and 13.3 million barrels of oil per day. Given that this country leads the world in gas production, it’s clear how significant its share of pollution and contribution to global warming is. In 2023, the US exported 86 million tons of liquefied natural gas, making it the world’s number one supplier. Studies by both OPEC and major energy companies like BP have shown that America has topped the list in natural gas production for several years.

According to data for 2024, carbon emissions from hydrocarbon production in Azerbaijan account for just 0.01 per cent of global emissions, while in the US, carbon dioxide emissions make up 14.4 per cent of the global total. The US emits three times more carbon than the 27 countries of the European Union, which collectively account for 4.9 per cent of global emissions. In fact, the US causes 1,440 times more environmental damage than Azerbaijan!

To make such outrageous accusations against Azerbaijan is, of course, sheer impudence! In general, the US is the last country that should criticize or offer advice to Azerbaijan on environmental issues, as well as on democracy and human rights!

Ahead of all significant events held in Azerbaijan—such as Eurovision, the European Games, the Islamic Games, and Formula 1 competitions—similar smear campaigns were orchestrated, but they ultimately had no impact. Just as this vile hysteria will have no effect, Azerbaijan will once again honourably host COP29, delivering a powerful response to those who are hostile toward it.

Unfortunately, instead of focusing on addressing their own country's issues, preventing political terror, and holding democratic elections, the Biden administration chooses to mislead the world, embroil nations in conflict, and target countries like Azerbaijan, which are beyond their control, as objects of information warfare.

It seems that the US administration and power circles have completely lost touch with reality, just as Biden has seemingly lost his sanity. The reality that the US is overlooking is that through COP29, Azerbaijan is sending a much-needed message of peace and cooperation to the world. Despite all the obstacles imposed by the US, the world is already receiving this message with great respect and gratitude.

On November 5, the citizens of the United States will have a decisive say on their future. They will choose either a strong state that will be a friend to all or a "gendarme country" that will become an enemy to everyone."
