BIG to highlight human rights violations in French overseas territories At upcoming press conference
The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) will hold a press conference on October 25 to present a report detailing human rights violations in France's overseas territories.
The event aims to raise awareness within the global community about severe human rights abuses in these colonized regions and to garner international support, Caliber.Az reports.
Key topics of discussion will include the destruction of cultural heritage, the disappearance of indigenous languages, violations of the right to education, and serious environmental disasters linked to France's colonial policies.
The report highlights several concerning issues, such as nuclear testing in French Polynesia, nickel mining in New Caledonia, environmental violations, the pesticide scandal in Martinique and Guadeloupe, and the repercussions of the French occupation of Mayotte. Additionally, it will cover violations related to health rights, educational discrimination, and infringements on electoral and religious rights.
Witnesses and victims from these territories will attend the event, sharing their personal stories and the challenges they face, as well as discussing their ongoing struggles against France's cultural and political dominance.
