Borrell: Azerbaijan-EU MoU to double gas supplies to Europe

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has said that the document signed between Azerbaijan and the EU will strengthen cooperation in the field of energy efficiency.

He made the statement following the 18th meeting of the Azerbaijan-European Union Cooperation Council in Brussels on July 19, Report informs.

The EU high representative noted that the memorandum of understanding would double Azerbaijan's gas supplies to Europe by 2027.

The meeting also discussed the issue of signing a new agreement between Azerbaijan and the EU, which "will lay the foundation for future dialogue", Borrell said.

He also expressed support for Azerbaijan's efforts to diversify the economy.

On July 18, Azerbaijan and the European Union signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation in the energy sector. The document was signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
