bp nears completion of first gas well at ACG block
The British energy company, bp, is actively working to complete the drilling of the first well on the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block to extract gas from two priority reservoirs as part of the free gas development project.
The announcement came from Tamam Bayatly, bp's head of external communications for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye region, as per Caliber.Az.
"The well has been drilled to its target depth, and final operations are currently underway. At the same time, construction and installation work is ongoing to connect the well to the existing transportation infrastructure so that, once opened, the extracted gas can be delivered onshore," Bayatly said.
She also added that the first gas production from the drilled well is expected to begin by the end of this year.
The free gas reserves at the ACG field are estimated at up to 4 trillion cubic feet.
The Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field is the largest oil and gas development complex in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. Operated by bp, the ACG block has been a cornerstone of Azerbaijan's hydrocarbon industry since the signing of the "Contract of the Century" in 1994. While historically known for oil production, ACG also holds significant untapped natural gas reserves.
