Bulgaria stands with Azerbaijan amid Iranian attacks, hails growing bilateral ties

Bulgaria has strongly condemned the recent Iranian drone attacks on Nakhchivan and reaffirmed its full solidarity with Azerbaijan, Bulgarian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ruslan Stoyanov said during a ceremony in Baku marking the country’s National Liberation Day.

“I am outraged by today’s actions by Iran, which struck Nakhchivan Airport and the village of Shakarabad. I sympathize with the families of the injured civilians. Bulgaria firmly condemns these actions and expresses its full solidarity with Azerbaijan,” Stoyanov stated, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

On March 5, drones launched from Iranian territory targeted multiple sites in Nakhchivan. One drone hit the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another struck near a school in the village of Shakarabad. The attack on the airport left four civilians injured. In response, Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilou, was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

Stoyanov also highlighted the growing political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria, noting that bilateral relations have significantly intensified over the past year. He pointed to the regularity of high-level contacts, recalling the meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Bulgarian President Iliana Yotova last month in Munich.

“Such dynamics in the political dialogue over the past year indicate the desire of both countries to maintain bilateral relations among the priorities of their foreign policy,” the ambassador said.

According to Stoyanov, in addition to political and economic cooperation, humanitarian, cultural, educational, and scientific ties are also developing between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria, reflecting a broad and growing partnership.
