Azerbaijani delegation monitoring referendum in Kazakhstan Central Election Commission says
Chairman of the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) Mazahir Panahov has said that the Azerbaijani delegation is participating in the referendum in the Republic of Kazakhstan as one of the biggest groups of international observers.
A total of 177 international observers are overseeing the referendum, with Azerbaijan represented by a delegation consisting of 16 members, accounting for approximately 10 per cent of the total number of observers. The delegation, led by Panahov, is on a visit to Kazakhstan to observe the referendum on October 6.
Panahov noted that the delegation consists of seven members from the Central Election Commission, six members of the Azerbaijani parliament and three employees from the Azerbaijani embassy in Kazakhstan.
He stated that by 12:00 (GMT+5), Azerbaijani representatives had observed over 30 polling stations.
"Throughout the day, we expect to monitor approximately 80-90 polling stations," he added.
Panahov stated that the Azerbaijani delegation, closely monitoring the referendum, views the process as transparent and democratic.
"According to preliminary observations, no undesirable incidents have been reported so far. There is significant interest among voters in expressing their will. Some Azerbaijani observers spoke to voters, noting that families are coming to polling stations. No interference has been observed. It is encouraging to see the serious attitude of the Kazakh public towards such issues," the head of the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission said.
He noted that Kazakhstan is rich in natural resources.
"At the same time, Kazakhstan has the potential to become one of the leading countries in nuclear energy, as the experience in this field within the post-Soviet area began with this country," Panahov added.
