Celebrating resilience: Azerbaijan honors National Salvation Day
Today, June 15, Azerbaijan commemorates National Salvation Day.
Caliber.Az recalls that exactly 31 years ago, national leader Heydar Aliyev returned to power, rescuing the Azerbaijani people, state, and nation from division. In his address to the Milli Majlis on June 15, 1993, Heydar Aliyev outlined a new strategy for the future development of Azerbaijan's statehood, marking this day in Azerbaijan's history as the Day of National Salvation.
On this day, Heydar Aliyev responded to the people's call and was elected Chairman of the Supreme Council for the second time, effectively ending years of tension and confrontation, and averting the threat of civil war and division. The philosophy of national salvation ensured Azerbaijan's existence and independence, marking a pinnacle in the country's history.
In 1997, parliament approved the declaration of June 15 as the Day of National Salvation of Azerbaijan, celebrating Heydar Aliyev's return to power.
Under President Ilham Aliyev's leadership, Azerbaijan's territorial integrity has been restored.
The Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, who worthily fulfilled his father's promise, liberated the ancestral Azerbaijani lands occupied by the Armenian armed forces for 30 years, thus fulfilling the UN resolutions.
