China bolsters ties in Tajikistan, unveiling strategic partnership & infrastructure support
During his state visit to Tajikistan on July 5, Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s steadfast commitment to Tajikistan’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while laying the groundwork for a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.
Meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe, President Rahmon underscored Tajikistan’s prioritization of strengthening ties with China, emphasizing firm support for the one-China principle and opposition to Taiwan independence, Caliber.Az reports per Tajik media
According to Rahmon’s press service, discussions between the leaders encompassed broadening cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, economy, and significant Chinese investments in Tajik industry, energy, transport, agriculture, digital economy, and artificial intelligence.
Over 700 of Tajikistan’s industrial enterprises benefit from Chinese financing, particularly in mining and mineral processing. Looking ahead, both leaders identified joint ventures in green technologies such as electric vehicles, solar panels, and smart electric grids as promising areas for collaboration.
Following their talks, President Xi Jinping highlighted a mutual commitment to enhancing Belt & Road cooperation at a high standard, aligning their development strategies to support each other’s modernization efforts. Xi also announced China’s intent to increase imports of high-quality Tajik products and bolster Tajikistan’s transit capabilities.
Later in the day, Presidents Xi and Rahmon participated in the inauguration of new parliament and government buildings in Dushanbe, constructed with substantial support from China. As a symbol of the close bilateral relationship, Xi Jinping bestowed upon President Rahmon the Friendship Medal of the People’s Republic of China, marking the first time this honor has been awarded to a foreign leader.
This visit not only solidifies the strategic partnership between China and Tajikistan but also underscores their shared commitment to deepening economic cooperation and fostering mutual development across various sectors crucial to both nations’ growth agendas.
