China considers development of innovative, green cities priority at WUF13 in Baku
China has prioritised the development of innovative, green, sustainable, smart and modern cities, Zhang Guoqing, a senior Chinese official, has stated at the Leaders’ Summit of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Special Representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined Beijing’s urban reform agenda, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He said China’s urbanisation process is being carried out with a people-centred approach, while the quality of urban infrastructure continues to improve steadily.
“China is carrying out large-scale reforms to optimise urban structures, advance the green transition, preserve cultural heritage and improve governance efficiency,” he noted.
“We are strengthening the foundations of urban safety and developing a model of urbanisation with Chinese characteristics,” he added.
The Chinese official noted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the UN New Urban Agenda, saying China is ready to work with all parties to build a greener and safer urban future.
He also stressed that cities improve lives, while cooperation makes the future more promising.
