Chinese MFA accuses US of threatening peace, stability in Taiwan

The selling of arms from the US to Taiwan threatens peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and violates Sino-American accords.

According to Gazeta.Ru, the official spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, gave this statement at the regular press conference of the ministry.

"US arms sales to the Chinese region of Taiwan is a gross violation of the principle of 'One China' policy. Arms transfers undermine the sovereignty and security, threatens peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait", her statement read.

Ning also stressed that Washington was "sending a false signal to the separatist forces of Taiwan".

Earlier, the US Department of State approved the possible sale to Taiwan of spare parts for the aviation and other equipment for a total of about $430 million.

The United States Congress also approved the sale of 100 missiles for Patriot air defense systems to Taiwan for a total of $882 million, as the publication recalled.

In a previous press conference from December 7, Ning commented on Japan expressing intent to join troop rotations with the US and Australia near Taiwan. She stated, that "Cooperation between the countries concerned needs to be conducive to regional peace and stability. The US keeps creating small circles with some of its allies. Such actions would only undermine regional peace and stability. This is neither welcomed nor supported".
