Chinese special rep. in Europe hails Azerbaijan as culturally, historically rich destination
Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs Wu Hongbo has said that for the first time, he is participating in the 10th Baku Global Forum.
“I really liked Azerbaijan’s hospitality, rich culture and history,” Hongbo, who is also former UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Federal Republic of Germany, said, according to APA.
He recalled that China's "One Belt, One Road" project has united more than 10 countries.
Hongbo also touched upon strategic cooperation with Azerbaijan.
“We have historical ties with Azerbaijan. Bilateral relations are at a good level. We will celebrate the 31st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year. We have become good friends with Azerbaijan for 30 years. Cooperation and economic ties are developed. The Azerbaijani President visited China,” he added.
“A meeting of the leaders of the two countries, at which the sides reached a consensus on the development of relations, was held in 2022. Both countries have determined the spheres of cooperation, which include infrastructure, etc. Azerbaijan is located at a strategically important point. The cargo transportation volume has been observed over the past months. Chinese companies are implementing joint projects, there is a rich potential for this,” he said.
