Chișinău hosts high-profile re-election of Azerbaijani community leader

24 June 2025 13:25

A reporting and election session of the Congress of Azerbaijanis of Moldova was held in the Moldovan capital, Chișinău, where Elchin Bayramov was re-elected as the organisation’s chairman for a new term.

The event brought together key Moldovan officials and Azerbaijani community members, Caliber.Az reports via domestic media.

Attendees included Igor Grosu, Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament; Dorin Junghietu, Minister of Energy; Ulvi Bakhshaliyev, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Moldova; Vitalie Jacot, Member of the Moldovan Parliament and head of the Moldova-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group; as well as representatives of various state institutions and diaspora activists.

The session began with the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Moldova, after which Speaker Igor Grosu addressed participants. In his remarks, he underlined the valuable role of the Azerbaijani diaspora in strengthening ties between the two nations.

“The Azerbaijani diaspora makes a tremendous contribution. It is actively engaged in Moldova’s public, political, cultural, and sports life. This brings me great satisfaction,” Grosu stated. “We will continue to support every initiative that fosters deeper cooperation between Azerbaijan and Moldova.”

Grosu also commended Azerbaijan’s contribution to Moldova’s energy security, describing it as an important factor in bilateral relations.

Ambassador Ulvi Bakhshaliyev, in his speech, noted the significance of having high-ranking Moldovan officials attend the gathering.

“Our compatriots living in Moldova are worthy citizens of this country. They play a dynamic role in Moldova’s public-political, economic, cultural, and sporting life,” he said.

Bakhshaliyev also highlighted the strength of Azerbaijan-Moldova ties and the importance of people-to-people diplomacy in reinforcing bilateral relations.

Further remarks were delivered by Minister Dorin Junghietu and MP Vitalie Jacot, both of whom praised the contributions of Azerbaijani citizens living in Moldova to the country’s development.

In his report, Elchin Bayramov, who led the Congress over the previous term, reviewed the organisation's achievements and outlined the ongoing significance of diaspora engagement.

“Today, the Azerbaijani diaspora plays a special role in promoting cooperation between Azerbaijan and Moldova,” Bayramov said. “Our compatriots, inspired by the far-sighted and pragmatic policies of President Ilham Aliyev, are fulfilling their responsibilities with honour.”

Following his address, a vote was held during which Bayramov was officially re-elected chairman of the Congress of Azerbaijanis of Moldova.

Congress activist Maarif Rahimov took the floor afterwards to express his appreciation to the State Committee on Work with the Diaspora and the Azerbaijani Embassy in Moldova for their ongoing support to the local Azerbaijani community.

The event concluded with the presentation of special diplomas to distinguished diaspora activists on behalf of the Congress leadership, in recognition of their contributions.
