COP29 discussed at Romanian-American University Azerbaijan’s green initiatives, calls for sustainable future
The Romanian-American University, a leading institution in Romania with a student body of 5,000, hosted a roundtable discussion titled “COP29: Initiatives and calls for a green future with the presidency of Azerbaijan".
The event was organized in collaboration with the Azerbaijani Embassy in Romania and aimed at highlighting the country’s role in the upcoming COP29 conference, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The event attracted university officials, think tank representatives, as well as both local and international students.
In his opening remarks, the university rector, Professor Costel Negricea, stressed the importance of the discussion, focusing on Azerbaijan's leadership at COP29. He underscored the significance of fostering dialogue between academia and government bodies, noting the university’s active participation in environmental protection and climate change-related research.
Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Romania, Gudsi Osmanov, addressed attendees by outlining Azerbaijan’s strategic goals for COP29, including its focus on renewable energy sources (RES) and the development of a green energy corridor between the Caspian Sea and the European Union.
He also pointed out Azerbaijan’s initiatives such as the creation of the Climate Finance Facility and the country’s ongoing efforts to promote a ceasefire in climate change-related conflicts.
Ambassador Osmanov called on the younger generation to take an active role in safeguarding the environment and emphasized the country's commitment to global climate solutions.
