COP29 to create new opportunities – UN official
President of the 78th UN General Assembly (UNGA) Dennis Francis has said that COP29 to be hosted by Azerbaijan will create new opportunities as he addressed the 11th Global Baku Forum.
"I believe in successful organization of COP29 by Azerbaijan. I think ambitious proposals will be put forward. It will be a new page in addressing climate change problems. We must put forward initiatives to preserve the future of the planet. I believe that everyone will share their experience and knowledge. COP29 will bring us the transformation we need, providing a roadmap to the momentous issues facing us. I would like to once again express my gratitude to the government of Azerbaijan for providing a platform for important dialogues," he said, APA reports.
In a special address to the Forum participants, the UNGA president pointed to the essence of theme of this year’s edition, Report informs.
The theme of the 11th Global Baku Forum - “Fixing the Fractured World” is particularly noteworthy, highlighting the most important challenge of our time.
"Indeed, as we seek to fix the fractured world, the ideals of the great poet Nizami Ganjavi, the International Center is named after, of education, tolerance, dialogue and mutual understanding must underpin our collective contribution as well as our strategy to restore effective balance and stability to systems of global governance," he said.
Francis expressed gratitude to the organisers of the Baku Forum, as well as to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for the opportunity to bring together world experts and public figures on a single platform.
