COP29 to offer Azerbaijan golden opportunity to tackle climate challenges Carbon Disclosure Project chief says

Sheri Madera, Executive Director of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), emphasized that Azerbaijan’s chairmanship at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will offer a significant opportunity for the country to play a pivotal role in addressing climate change.

Speaking to local media, she stated that COP29 is expected to promote multidimensional cooperation and lead to meaningful outcomes in the global fight against climate change, Caliber.Az reports.

Madera highlighted that the CDP, a globally active NGO for the past 24 years, has worked with thousands of companies, cities, regions, and countries each year to help them measure and manage risks related to climate change, water security, and deforestation. 

The organization’s extensive database serves as a crucial foundation for climate-related decision-making.

Madera noted that while COP meetings are often viewed as platforms for discussion, these discussions are vital for generating data, ideas, and decisions that drive climate action. "The achievements at COP29, COP30, and beyond will be built on a strong database," she remarked, adding that one of the key expectations from COP29 is securing climate finance for vulnerable nations.

She concluded by emphasizing that access to capital and the distribution of climate finance to countries in need will be determined by the data collected through the CDP's independent assessment methodology.
