Türkiye appoints new Commander for Service Group in Azerbaijan
Türkiye has officially named Lieutenant General Soner Orucoglu as the new commander of its Service Group stationed in Azerbaijan, marking a significant leadership transition within the bilateral military cooperation framework.
Lieutenant General Orucoglu succeeds General Bakhtiyar Ersay, who previously held the command post and concurrently served as an advisor to the Azerbaijani Minister of Defence, playing a pivotal role in fostering military collaboration between the two nations, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Under the decree of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Army General Bakhtiyar Ersay was appointed Commander of the First Army of the Turkish Land Forces.
Bakhtiyar Ersay served as Commander of Türkiye's Service Group in Azerbaijan since 2021 and was appointed as an advisor to the Azerbaijani Minister of Defence in 2022.
