Baku hosts reception marking Türkiye’s Victory day
An official reception was held at the Embassy of Türkiye in Baku to mark August 30 —Türkiye’s Victory Day.
The event brought together high-ranking Azerbaijani officials, members of the Milli Majlis, ambassadors of foreign states accredited in Azerbaijan, and representatives of Turkish companies. Lieutenant General Karim Valiyev, First Deputy Minister of Defence of Azerbaijan and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijani Army, attended as the guest of honour, Caliber.Az reporst via local media.
The ceremony began with the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, followed by a moment of silence to honour the memory of Azerbaijani and Turkish martyrs.
Speaking at the event, Valiyev underlined the strength of Azerbaijan-Türkiye relations, stressing that they are “at their highest level.” He noted that the Shusha Declaration elevated bilateral ties to the level of an alliance and highlighted the significant role played by the heads of state in achieving this success.
Valiyev added that the recent leadership changes in the Turkish Armed Forces would give fresh momentum to military cooperation between the two countries. He announced that the newly appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, Army General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, is expected to visit Azerbaijan soon, further reinforcing defence ties.
Furthermore, the sdeputyv defence minister announced that Azerbaijan is scheduled to host the multinational exercise "Eternal Brotherhood," with the participation of special forces from Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and Qatar in September.
"The achievements of Azerbaijan and Türkiye in the defence sector further strengthen military unity and make a significant contribution to maintaining peace and stability in the region," he said.
For his part, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgun described the current period as a historic opportunity for peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus. He said Türkiye welcomes the latest agreement aimed at achieving lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia and reaffirmed Ankara’s support for Baku in this matter.
