Ukrainian Embassy in Baku opens book of condolences following Russian airstrike on Kyiv
The Ukrainian Embassy in Azerbaijan has opened a book of condolences for the victims of the Russian airstrike on Kyiv on the night of August 28, Ukrainian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Yuriy Husyev announced on his Facebook page.
“August 29 is a day of mourning in Kyiv and the surrounding region, declared after Russia’s attack, which killed 23 people, including four children. Condolences can be sent to the Ukrainian Embassy in Azerbaijan at emb_az@mfa.gov.ua,” Husyev wrote.
During the August 28 strikes, Russia launched a large-scale aerial attack on multiple Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, targeting areas far from the front lines. The assault involved Shahed-type drones, decoy drones, cruise missiles, and Kinzhal missiles.
At least 23 people were killed in the capital, including children aged 2, 14, and 17. Explosions rocked the city as missiles and drones struck homes, offices, and schools. One five-story apartment building was hit directly and completely destroyed.
Casualty figures and damage assessments are still being finalised. A large-scale rescue operation is underway, involving approximately 500 rescuers and 1,000 emergency workers, who are clearing rubble and searching for victims trapped under debris.
Among the sites struck were the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kyiv, as well as buildings housing the EU and British delegations.
