Azerbaijan blocks disinformation campaign on Facebook

A disinformation campaign launched from the territory of one of the neighbouring countries against Azerbaijan in the Azerbaijani segment of Facebook continued throughout August, the Parliamentary Commission on Countering External Interference and Hybrid Threats stated.

According to the commission, the campaign — which spread provocative disinformation — was coordinated from a single center and carried out through newly created pages such as Caspian Xəbər, Caspian Times, İşıq Media, Pro Eminent Guild, and Next Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports. 

“These attempts to interfere in the information space of the Republic of Azerbaijan, undertaken to achieve geopolitical goals, have been successfully thwarted thanks to joint efforts with relevant state institutions. As a result of appeals to Meta, all anti-Azerbaijani pages were removed,” the commission stated.
