Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister and COP29 Chief Negotiator, Yalchin Rafiyev, visited Ankara on August 29 at the invitation of Türkiye's Deputy Minister of Environment and Urbanisation, Fatma Varank, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported to Caliber.Az.
During the visit, Rafiev delivered remarks at the opening session of a seminar dedicated to Türkiye’s report on the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
In his speech, Rafiyev highlighted the historic outcomes achieved at COP29 and emphasised Azerbaijan’s significant role in the successful launch of the transparency reporting mechanism outlined in the landmark climate accord.
He noted that 105 countries have already submitted their transparency reports, with both Azerbaijan and Türkiye among the first to meet this obligation.
Rafiyev also underlined that Azerbaijan’s efforts to promote climate transparency go beyond the scope of COP29, announcing the creation of the Baku Transparency Platform, which will continue to collaborate with international partners to assist countries in preparing reports and conducting technical reviews.
As part of his trip, Rafiyev held bilateral meetings with Deputy Minister Fatma Varank, Turkish Deputy Foreign Ministers Ayşe Berris Ekinci and Nuh Yılmaz, as well as with the Chairman of the Turkish Economic Development Agency, Abdullah Eren.
Discussions during these meetings covered a wide range of issues, including the climate agenda, Türkiye’s ongoing measures to combat climate change, preparations for COP30, regional climate and economic projects, and avenues for enhanced cooperation with Azerbaijani agencies.
