FM: Uganda looks forward to signing cooperation agreement with Azerbaijan
Uganda is eager to finalise an agreement with the Azerbaijani government to strengthen cooperation in mineral exploration, extraction, and infrastructure development, Ugandan State Minister of Foreign Affairs John Mulimba told domestic media.
The minister recalled that during a recent visit to Baku, a delegation from Uganda held talks at Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy, where they explored prospects for collaboration in the oil and gas sector, mining, and hydropower development.
“At the ministry, we discussed a number of areas of cooperation between the governments of Azerbaijan and Uganda, particularly in the energy sector,” Mulimba said. “Uganda has rich water resources, and there are several waterfalls along the Nile River that are suitable for the construction of hydroelectric power plants. Some of them have already been successfully implemented.”
He emphasised that Uganda is keen to leverage Azerbaijan’s expertise in building additional hydroelectric plants.
“In addition, during our discussions at the Ministry of Energy, we also talked about mineral exploration,” Mulimba noted. “Uganda is rich in mineral resources. For example, we have abundant gold and lithium reserves. We also have rare earth metals, including cobalt, as well as significant deposits of iron ore. Therefore, we look forward to signing an agreement on cooperation and joint activities in the field of mineral exploration and extraction, and in infrastructure construction.”
