Court testimony: Azerbaijani soldier describes torture in Armenian captivity

25 July 2025 14:47

At a hearing held on July 25 at the Baku Military Court, victim Valiahad Valiyev testified about his experiences during the 44-day war in 2020.

Veliev recounted that on October 22, 2020, in the Zangilan region, he sustained gunshot and shrapnel wounds and was subsequently taken prisoner by Armenian armed forces, Caliber.Az reports via Azertag.

During the incident, Valiyev reported that several of his fellow soldiers were killed. He also described brutal torture he endured while in captivity, including being beaten with fists, feet, and sticks, and subjected to plier-inflicted injuries.

Valiahad Valiyev was released and handed over to Azerbaijani authorities on December 14, 2020.

The trial in Baku continues against Armenian citizens charged with crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes such as preparation and waging of aggressive war, genocide, violations of the laws and customs of war, terrorism, financing terrorism, violent seizure and retention of power, among numerous other allegations.
