D-8 chief hails Azerbaijan's media initiative as game-changer

The proposal to establish the D-8 Media Excellence Center is one of the forward-looking initiatives implemented within the D-8 framework in recent years, D-8 Secretary General Sohail Mahmood said at the presentation of the center's strategy.

According to him, the center will further expand ties between countries, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

"I express my deep gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan for his visionary leadership and firm support for strengthening cooperation among D-8 member states. The proposal to establish the D-8 Media Excellence Center is one of the most forward-looking initiatives implemented within D-8 in recent years. Once established, these centers will further strengthen D-8 institutional structure and intensify practical cooperation among member states in important areas such as information, energy, environment and transport," Mahmood said.

He added that today's media environment is being seriously affected by a number of powerful dynamics.

"From geopolitical turbulence to technological progress, from innovative ideas to harmful practices, we see this environment being constantly reshaped by artificial intelligence, digital transformation, cross-border information flows, cybersecurity challenges, the rapid spread of disinformation and false information, as well as hate speech. Adapting to the ongoing transformations and combating widespread negative trends require stronger international cooperation, greater professional capacity and reliable institutional partnership," he said.
