Denis Sammut: Azerbaijan's chairmanship of NAM brought new vision to organisation
Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has brought new energy, a new vision to the organisation.
The Director of LINKS EUROPE, Denis Sammut, made the remark at the symposium "From Bandung to Baku: the Non-Aligned Movement in a changing and complex global context", Report informs.
He added that there were still unresolved problems within the organisation itself. "But Azerbaijan's chairmanship of NAM has given a new vision of how NAM members should work together in the future," he said, noting that problems in geopolitics exist not only in NAM but also in the international system itself, including the UN system and other international institutions and organisations.
"Therefore, we should adhere to the principle of multilateralism and not any one country dominating over the others," he said.
Denis Sammut noted that by chairing the NAM Azerbaijan was able to redirect the focus to urgent and pressing issues in the world.
"Azerbaijan's chairmanship has given NAM institutional strength, which has helped boost cooperation among members of the organisation," he added.
