“At this year’s Africa Day we wish sustainable and resilient future for the people of Africa resting on peace and development,“ Rafiyev added.
“Azerbaijan highly values its partnership and friendly bonds with African nations,” he added.
Africa Day is celebrated annually on May 25 to commemorate the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963. The OAU, now succeeded by the African Union (AU), was established to promote unity and solidarity among African countries, support decolonisation efforts, and advance economic, social, and political integration across the continent.
Africa Day serves as a reminder of the continent’s rich history, cultural diversity, and ongoing efforts toward peace, development, and prosperity. It is an occasion for African nations and the global community to reflect on Africa’s achievements and challenges, while fostering stronger cooperation and partnerships worldwide.
Each year, Africa Day carries a specific theme that highlights current priorities such as economic growth, youth empowerment, sustainable development, and peacebuilding. The day is marked by various events, including cultural programs, policy discussions, and diplomatic activities aimed at strengthening ties between Africa and other regions.
