Deputy PM: Azerbaijan has right to demand justice from UNESCO

08 December 2022 11:05

Armenia had destroyed cities during their occupation of the territories of Azerbaijan, thus damaging cultural heritage.

According to Report, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov stated this at an international scientific conference titled "The role of UNESCO conventions in the protection of cultural values and aspects of improving their application", organized by the National Commission for UNESCO of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the National Committee of Azerbaijan for the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the Institute of Development and Diplomacy of the ADA University.

"By understanding what kind of damage has been made to the cultural heritage, those countries, that have acceded to the UNESCO Convention should pay more attention to this problem", the deputy minister said.

Ahmadov stated, that the position currently taken by UNESCO is surprising, saying, that if an organization failed to meet its obligations, an alternative should be sought.

He called on UNESCO for objectivity, urging that otherwise other alternatives will be found: "To demand justice from UNESCO - that is the right of Azerbaijan".
