A seminar titled "Egypt-Azerbaijan: Efforts and Prospects for Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation" was held at the Syndicate of Journalists in Cairo, the capital of Egypt.

The event was organised with the support of Azerbaijan's State Committee for Work with the Diaspora, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Egypt, Elkhan Polukhov, addressed over 50 local journalists and researchers, discussing the strong ties between Egypt and Azerbaijan. He noted that relations between the two countries have been further strengthened following high-level reciprocal visits.

The ambassador also provided updates on preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in Azerbaijan in November 2024. He highlighted several projects set to be implemented as part of the event. Ambassador Polukhov praised Egypt's hosting of COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2022 and commended the country for sharing its experience with Azerbaijan.

Seymur Nasirov, the Chairman of the Egypt-Azerbaijan Friendship Society, spoke about the history of bilateral relations between the two nations.

International relations researcher Khada Jaber also addressed the seminar, discussing women's rights in Azerbaijan. She pointed out that the Speaker of Azerbaijan's parliament is a woman and highlighted the significant representation of female MPs in the country's legislature.

The seminar concluded with a Q&A session, where Ambassador Polukhov and other speakers responded to numerous questions from local journalists and researchers.

The event received extensive coverage in the Egyptian media. Reports also featured the activities of the Egypt-Azerbaijan Friendship Society, emphasising its primary aim of fostering friendship between the two peoples, developing ties in science, culture, and religion, and providing social services to students.

It was noted that the society offers courses in Azerbaijani and English languages, Quranic studies, Arabic grammar, literature, oratory, logic, calligraphy, carpet weaving, and the art of Mugham. More than 600 young people from 57 countries are currently receiving free education across various subjects.
