05 August 2024 11:24
Azerbaijani Embassy in Pakistan has stated that Azerbaijan supports the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir problem in a peaceful way, in compliance with the norms and principles of international law.
“The principled position of Azerbaijan on Jammu & Kashmir is based on the support for peaceful resolution of this issue in accordance w/the norms & principles of international law & the relevant UNSC resolutions, as well as w/full respect to the international humanitarian law,” the embassy wrote on X, according to Caliber.Az.
The Jammu and Kashmir dispute is a long-standing territorial conflict between India and Pakistan, with roots extending back to the partition of British India in 1947. It is a dispute over the region that has escalated into three wars between India and Pakistan and several other armed clashes. India controls about 55% of the region, comprising Jammu, the Kashmir Valley, most of Ladakh, the Siachen Glacier[3][4] and 70% of the population; Pakistan controls about 30% of the territory comprising Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan; and China controls the remaining 15% of the territory comprising the Aksai Chin region, the largely uninhabited Transkarakoram and part of the Demchok sector.
