Envoy: Armenia should be forced to hand over minefield maps to Azerbaijan
Ambassador-at-Large of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elshad Iskandarov has said that pressure must be put on Armenia to hand over maps of minefields to Azerbaijan.
Iskandarov made these remarks at an event entitled “Solidarity with landmine victims in the South Caucasus: an important pillar of the strategy to eliminate mines and their consequences” in Baku, Report informs.
He noted that informing countries about the mine problem in Azerbaijan should lead to cooperation with international organisations and foreign countries.
“Currently, the fight against the mine problem is a priority in Azerbaijan. Some $25 billion is required for demining in Azerbaijan while $10 million was allocated over the past three years. Proceeding from these amounts, it is clear that few funds were allocated. From this point of view, international players should intensively support Azerbaijan in solving the mine problem. Pressure must be put on Armenia to hand over maps of minefields to our country,” Iskandarov added.
