Envoy: Azerbaijan, EU keep working on new deal
The European Union (EU) and Azerbaijan are strengthening cooperation, and continue working on a new comprehensive cooperation agreement.
The remarks came from the Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Peter Michalko, according to Report.
“We see the strengthening of relations with Azerbaijan. Several important visits took place last year. President of the European Council Charles Michel, EU Commissioner Oliver Varheli visited Baku. In December 2021, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels. We continue to work on a new agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan,” the ambassador said.
Mikhalko noted that the EU and Azerbaijan keep remaining essential trade partners, adding that 51 per cent of Azerbaijan's overall exports account for the EU markets, and the parties have now reached the same trade turnover figures as before the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are also cooperating in energy issues. The Southern Gas Corridor is an important and very successful project. We also pay attention to the renewable energy sources and green energy, cooperation in these areas is developing,” the EU official concluded.
