Envoy: Azerbaijan interested in joining BRICS
Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu has said that Azerbaijan is interested in joining BRICS.
He made the remarks in an interview with Russian media ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Baku, Caliber.Az reports.
“A long queue of countries is seeking to join BRICS. Azerbaijan has indeed expressed its desire to join. We have discussed this with our Russian colleagues, but it remains a process and is still under consideration,” he said in response to whether Baku has formally applied to join the group.
BRICS was founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining in 2011. On January 1, 2024, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia became full members of the group. This year, Russia is chairing BRICS. The major event for the group will be the BRICS summit scheduled to take place in Kazan from October 22 to 24.
