Envoy: Bangladesh proposes visa-free travel, direct flights with Azerbaijan
Proposals have been made to abolish the visa regime between Bangladesh and Azerbaijan, Amanul Haq, Bangladesh’s non-resident ambassador to Azerbaijan.
Haque noted that, due to the absence of direct flights between the two countries, Bangladesh has initiated discussions to establish a direct air link, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Alongside this, we should not overlook simplifying the visa process. Easing visa requirements is a key factor in facilitating mutual travel for our citizens. We have already submitted our proposal to the Azerbaijani side and hope for a positive response,” he said.
The ambassador also highlighted that Bangladesh’s Advisor for Urban Development and Public Works (with ministerial status) will visit Azerbaijan on October 14–15.
Haq emphasised that relations between the two countries have developed rapidly in a short period. “Recently, high-level mutual visits between Azerbaijan and Bangladesh have intensified. Last week, Bangladesh’s Minister of Transport visited Azerbaijan—this is a clear indicator of the strong ties between our nations,” he said.
The diplomat added that bilateral relations began to advance significantly after a visit by a delegation led by Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov to Bangladesh, which included meetings with the Chief Advisor of the Bangladeshi interim government, Muhammad Yunus and Foreign Minister Touhid Hossain, as well as political consultations that have since strengthened ties between the two foreign ministries.
