Envoy: India strives to expand trade ties with Azerbaijan
Charge d'Affaires of India in Baku Vinay Kumar has said that India hopes to expand trade relations with Azerbaijan.
Kumar made these remarks at an event dedicated to the 74th anniversary of India's Republic Day, Report informs.
He noted that the trade volumes between the two countries have greatly increased from about $50 million in 2005 to $739 million in 2021 and continued growing in 2022, rising to $1.882 billion.
"India has become the fifth biggest trading partner of Azerbaijan over this period," Kumar added.
Touching upon other issues of bilateral cooperation, the Charge d'Affaires noted that there are sincere relations and deep historical ties between India and Azerbaijan.
“Our countries and people are bound by a common respect for multiculturalism and tolerance. Our relations have expanded and diversified in many spheres over the 30 years that have passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations,” he noted.
Kumar also stressed that Azerbaijan Airlines has been making direct flights between Delhi and Baku twice a week since August 2022, citing this as an example of successful cooperation in the tourism sector.
