Envoy: Philippines eager to participate in COP29
The Philippines eagerly anticipates participating in the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan, Henry Bensurto, Philippine Ambassador to Azerbaijan (residing in Ankara), told Report.
Given the archipelago's vulnerability to climate change due to its surrounding waters, this event holds significant importance, he added.
Envoy emphasized the critical nature of environmental and climate change issues for the Philippines.
"Climate change primarily affects islands. It is crucial not only for our country but for the entire world. Therefore, COP29 is a very important platform," Bensurto stated.
The ambassador expressed confidence that Baku would leverage this international event to highlight climate change solutions. He acknowledged Baku's experience in hosting numerous international events and believed COP29 would be conducted at a high level.
"The Philippines will participate in the event and contribute to all discussions. We are continuously cooperating with Azerbaijan to ensure effective coordination," Bensurto added.
