Envoy: Türkiye, Azerbaijan ahead of West in women's electoral rights

Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Cahit Bagci has said that Türkiye and Azerbaijan granted women the right to vote and be elected before many Western countries.

He made the remarks at the conference "Women in the Islamic World: Traditions and Challenges", Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The ambassador spoke about the work carried out in Türkiye and Azerbaijan to increase the activity and role of women in public and political life.

"Türkiye's action plan for 2024 includes serious measures to prevent violence against women. Azerbaijan is also taking important steps in the field of women's and children's rights, adopting important laws and organising various events. Türkiye is always ready to share its experience with official Baku. Moreover, there is an action plan between our countries in this direction and we are implementing it jointly," the diplomat said.
