Envoy: Ukraine, Azerbaijan negotiate long-term gas supply agreement
Ukraine is currently in negotiations with Azerbaijan regarding a long-term natural gas supply contract, according to Yuriy Husyev, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan. I
In an interview with Report, Husyev emphasised the importance of fostering closer energy sector cooperation between the two nations, Caliber.Az informs.
The qmbassador noted that the first contract for the supply of Azerbaijani gas via the Trans-Balkan corridor had already been signed. He expressed hope for further developments in energy cooperation, as well as in other areas such as bilateral trade, humanitarian aid, and education.
Husyev pointed out that both countries share common interests in promoting energy independence and improving energy efficiency, especially within the context of Central and Eastern Europe. He also suggested that such cooperation would be mutually beneficial for both Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
In addition, Husyev expressed Ukraine’s deep appreciation for Azerbaijan's ongoing humanitarian support, particularly the supply of electrical equipment, which has been critical to Ukraine's needs. The ambassador indicated that Ukraine looks forward to continuing this collaboration in the future.
The two countries’ energy ties were further strengthened in July 2025, when Ukraine’s Naftogaz Group signed its first agreement with SOCAR Energy Ukraine, a subsidiary of the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR, for the purchase of Azerbaijani natural gas.
